Crash Kills Bloomsburg Area Athlete | News
Investigators said speed and passing in a no-passing zone were factors in a deadly crash Sunday night in Columbia County.
Police said Colton Eyer, 20, of Orangeville was killed after his car overturned on Millville Road in Bloomsburg. Investigators said the man was speeding and passed a car in a no-passing zone, lost control, then slammed into a parked car that was pushed into a building.
There is much sadness at Millville Area High School. Eyer graduated two years ago and then went on to Lycoming College.
High school principal Eric Stair said Eyer was well liked. "It's such a tragedy to lose someone at such a young age but it also is a reminder to all of us that how short life can be and we have to remember being young students how to drive in vehicles but we are very saddened by his loss," Stair said.
Coach Mark Concini said Colton Eyer is remembered for excelling in wrestling in baseball. "He went into the Guard to help pay for his college and it's s shame right there. He had everything in front of him," Concini said.
Jari Farr is the high school's athletic director. She knew Eyer for 14 years because he was her son's friend. "The group of them went to prom together and last year one of them got married and they were all in the wedding together. They run around together quite a bit since they graduated from high school," said Farr.
Funeral arrangements are being made and officials predict many people will go and pay their respects.
